The Legacy of ESX
ESX (EssentialMode Extended) has been the backbone of FiveM roleplay for years. Its biggest advantage is the sheer volume of scripts available for it. Nearly every conceivable feature has been built for ESX at some point. However, legacy versions of ESX were notorious for poor performance and spaghetti code, though the newer ESX Legacy updates have improved this significantly.
The Rise of QBCore
QBCore emerged as a modern, lightweight alternative. It was built from the ground up with performance and clean code in mind. It utilizes advanced features like UI menus (qb-menu) and a highly standardized core API. For new developers, QBCore is often much easier to learn and read.
Performance and Stability
Out of the box, QBCore generally offers superior performance and a more cohesive default UI experience. ESX can be optimized to run just as well, but it requires much more manual tweaking and careful script selection to achieve the same result.
The Verdict
If you are starting a brand new server today, QBCore is highly recommended due to its modern architecture and standardized ecosystem. However, if you have a massive library of older custom scripts or prefer a specific classic feel, ESX Legacy is still a perfectly viable choice.
